Automatic tape splicing unit and tape splicing method - for food packaging machine of fluidity or semi-fluidity

The automatic splicing unit has an abutment block and a heating block movable in relation to each other into abutment engagement for applying heat and pressure to mutually overlapping portions of first and second thermoplastic tapes for welding the first and second tapes together at a welding plane. A cutter is connected to the heating block and is movable into the welding plane for cutting through the first thermoplastic tape. A tape displacement member is connected to the heating block for displacing the second thermoplastic tape away from the welding plane simultaneously with the movement of the cutter. A method for splicing tapes with the device is also disclosed.
