The present invention relates to a coating composition for an ink jet recording medium comprising colloidal silica and a synthetic resin emulsion having two or more different glass transition points (Tg) obtained by emulsion-polymerizing (A) a radical-polymerizable unsaturated monomer having a silyl group and (B) another radical-polymerizable unsaturated monomer which is copolymerizable with (A), in the presence of a radical polymerizable surfactant , and to an ink jet recording medium coated with such a coating composition for an ink jet recording medium, providing effects that gloss is further improved, weather resistance is improved, a property to follow the change in stress caused by bending is sufficiently obtained while maintaining a quick ink permeability into an ink receiving layer of a cast layer coating agent. |
