PURPOSE: A cooling device is provided to improve the heat exchange performance of a refrigerant in an evaporator while preventing freezing of articles received in a space to be cooled in the cooling device. CONSTITUTION: A cooling device(110) comprises a refrigerant circuit in which a compressor(10), a gas cooler(40), a throttle unit, and an evaporator(92) are successively arranged; a control unit(90) controlling the compressor; and a cooling state sensor detecting the cooling state of a space to be cooled by the evaporator. The control unit stops the operation of the compressor if the compressor is operated continuously for predetermined time and changes the continuous operation time of the compressor for stopping the compressor on the basis of the temperature of the space detected by the cooling state sensor.
