The present invention refers to a process for preparing a reformation catalyst that comprises: incorporating a Group IA alkaline metal from an aqueous alkaline solution into a zeolitic material in its acid form by means of ionic exchange, in order to form a modified zeolitic support material; drying and burning the modified zeolitic support material and mixing the said material with an inorganic oxide, then drying and burning the mixed material to form a stable zeolitic catalyst/inorganic oxide; and impregnating such zeolitic catalyst/inorganic oxide support with a Group VIII metal to form an impregnated zeolitic catalyst/inorganic oxide for providing a naphtha reformation catalyst for a naphtha reformation process that does not require addition or adjustment of the chlorine content in said reformation naphtha process, in which the naphtha reformation catalyst may be regenerated.
