The feed device has the assembly components for cooperating upper and lower tools of an assembly machine supplied along a fed channel via a feed rod (19) attached to a carriage (20), reciprocated in the feed direction by a central crank mechanism. Pref. the crank mechanism is positioned beneath the carriage between the front and rear reversal points, with the coupling between the crank mechanism and th carriage provided by a roller (23) moved along a curved cam slot (22) attached to the carriage.
