The invention relates to an alternator for a motor vehicle, comprising a rotor which is connected to a shaft and which is mounted inside a housing comprising a front bearing which is centrally provided with a casing which is defined by an annular bearing and by a cross wall for mounting a ball bearing rotatably supporting the end, i.e. the front end, of the shaft, wherein the outer ring of the ball bearing is axially clamped between the cross wall and a holding element (55) fixed to the front bearing with the aid of screws mounted in holes in the front bearing and wherein the holding element (55) takes the form of a plate having a central opening (455) through which the rotor shaft extends and a contact bearing with the outer ring of the ball bearing is defined; the holding plate (55) has an opening slit (555) extending from the central opening (455) to the external periphery of the holding element. The invention can be used as an alternator for a motor vehicle. |
