PURPOSE: Provided are modified interferon-alpha 2a and 2b, and a conjugate of PEG derivatives therewith, to reduce physiological activity of interferon and increase sustaining time thereof in a living body. CONSTITUTION: The modified interferon-alpha 2a or 2b is prepared by substituting cysteine for 106 threonine or 161 leucine in wild type of human interferon-alpha 2a or 2b. PEG derivative specifically bonds to a cysteine residue to prepare the conjugate of PEG derivative with the above modified interferon alpha 2a or alpha 2b.
