A modular jack comprises a plurality of contact pins (10) arranged in an insertion recessed portion (12) of a casing (6) to align substantially horizontally. The contact pin (10) includes a fixed portion (21) fixed to a fixing hole (20) of a side wall (6c) and an elastic contact portion (22) extended from a front end of the fixed portion (21) in a rear direction in an inclined shape. In connecting a modular plug (2), a front end (24) of the elastic contact portion (22) is projected to the outside of the casing (6) via a slit (23) and invades inside of a through hole (25) of a printed wiring board (5) <IMAGE>
