PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for assembling and manufacturing an optical device by which the optical device can be assembled and manufactured at a low cost and a polarizing beam splitter and optical glass base material can precisely and firmly fixed, and to provide a projection display device. SOLUTION: The polarizing beam splitters 102, 103, 104 and 105 are coated with ultraviolet curing type adhesives 102s, 103s, 104s and 105s and held (a) on the optical glass base material 20a. While performing the adjustment of an optical position, ultraviolet rays are radiated to be transmitted through the material 20a by an ultraviolet ray radiating machine 30 so as to fix (b) the beam splitters.
