Method for collecting single-use containers that have a deposit associated with them. According to the method the containers are checked for validity and then reduced in volume before being stored. Volume reduction is undertaken after checking and involves pressing, shattering or shredding according to the type of item. Thus containers can also be automatically sorted as to material, e.g. into steel and aluminum cans. An independent claim is made for an arrangement for collecting single use containers.
