<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for cleaning exhaust gas, the ability of which to remove HC can be improved by making an HC adsorbing layer exhibit its own function to the full. <P>SOLUTION: This apparatus 1 for cleaning the exhaust gas comprises a carrier 2, a catalyst layer 3 which is arranged on the carrier 2 and has the ability to remove HC, and the HC adsorbing layer 4 arranged on the layer 3.
