<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leak detection apparatus capable of performing detection on bag-like objects or hollow bodies such as condoms and highly precisely detecting even minute pinholes regardless of a simple apparatus constitution, and a leak detection method. <P>SOLUTION: The leak detection apparatus is constituted of an acrylic chamber 3 provided with an inlet 1 on its opening side for housing a condom 2; a probe gas inlet valve 6 for letting helium in by a probe tube 4 inserted via the gas inlet 1; a discharge valve 8 connected to a dry pump 7 for discharging gases from the inside of the chamber 3; and a helium leak detector 9 for detecting the quantity of helium in the discharged gases. Leak detection is performed in both a first process for discriminating the quantity of helium detected by the detector 9 to a prescribed first background quantity with the valve 6 closed and the valve 8 opened and a second process for discriminating the degree of the quantity of helium detected by the detector 9 to a prescribed second background quantity with both the valves 6 and 8 opened. Since leak detection is performed by reducing the pressure of the outside of bag-like bodies and hollow bodies, objects of detection, by evacuation and generating differential pressure between the inside and outside of them, it is possible to avoid mechanical contact, which might produce new pinholes, with the objects of detection and perform highly reliable detection. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
