PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that it is necessary to decelerate a reading speed on the same conditions rather than monochromatic reading since optical information (a quantity of received light) per time is lowered by arranging a red filter, a green filter and a blue filter to cover three photoelectric transducer lines in color reading. SOLUTION: It is determined whether or not a select button is depressed, and it is determined whether or not the depressed button is for color reading (reading in a plurality of colors) (S11). When it is determined in S11 that color reading is selected (Y in S11), a quantity of light from a light source is set to a first quantity of light as a quantity of light for color reading by a non-temporal system control means (S12). When it is determined in S11 that monochromatic reading is selected (N in S11), the quantity of light from the light source is set to a second quantity of light which is a half of a quantity of light for color reading, for example, by the non-temporal system control means (S13).
