PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method for generating the test stream to support a test of a software for a digital television at various levels and various digital broadcast standards, and the apparatus. SOLUTION: The apparatus for generating the test stream comprises a data generating module which generates the test data by referring to a database based on demands of a user, a data producing module which produces a text or XML data after fetching the test data generated by the data generating module, a data transformation module which transforms the produced XML data into a transport stream and the database which stores information needed for the modules to perform their own functions and from which the information is fetched.
