In an LCD operated in an OCB mode, method and apparatus for driving the LCD, responsive to a power source, a timing controller provides a control signal to a switching device so as to apply a bias voltage to an LCD panel during a predetermined first time. After the predetermined first time passes, the timing controller provides a control signal to the switching device so as to apply a common voltage to the common electrode. Also, when a data signal is not input, the timing controller provides the control signal to the switching device such that the bias voltage is applied to the common electrode. Accordingly, although the data signal is not inputted, the LCD may maintain a liquid crystal in a bend alignment state while an image is displayed through the LCD panel.
