<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar light source device capable of emitting highly bright and uniform light and a display device having superior display quality. <P>SOLUTION: The planar light source comprises a light guide plate 3 which emits light entered from the side face from the upper face and a substrate 11 which is provided opposed to the side face 3a of the light guide plate 3. A first row of light sources 10a and a second row of light sources 10b are provided in parallel along the major side 3c of the side face 3a on the substrate 11. The light sources 10a and the light sources 10b are provided inclined against the major side of the light guide plate 3.
