PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the space, lower the cost, and prevent abnormal vibration in a shock absorber including a pressure detecting means without lowering the strength of a cylinder and a member for sealing the cylinder. SOLUTION: A pressure detecting means of the shock absorber includes distortion gauges 10, 11 composed of: elastic ring-like base material 10a, 11a fitted to the outer periphery of the cylinder 1; and distortion measuring parts 10a, 11b disposed to present an impedance change due to the circumferential distortion of the base materials 10a, 11a in the insulating state on the outer peripheral surfaces of the base materials 10a, 11a or in the base materials 10a, 11a.
