PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a redox reaction between an electrode and an alignment layer due to incident light and to suppress the occurrence of image persistence phenomenon. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device is provided with a first electrode 9a formed on a first transparent substrate 10 of the first and a second substrates which are disposed opposite to each other and between which a liquid crystal is enclosed, a second electrode 21 formed on the second transparent substrate 20, a first passivation film 91 formed on the first electrode 9a, a second passivation film 92 formed on the second electrode 21 and having a charge mobility different from that of the first passivation film 91, a first alignment layer 16 formed on the first passivation film 91 and a second alignment layer 22 formed on the second passivation film 92.
