PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a support for an image recording material which has superior cushioning properties and high internal bonding power, enhances planeness when calendered, and gives an image recording material pleasant to the touch, capable of obtaining a good image, less liable to curl, and having no edge peeling between the support and an image forming layer when the image forming layer such as a dye image receiving layer is disposed. SOLUTION: The support for the image recording material uses base paper as a substrate, wherein the base paper is base paper obtained by adding a Hoffmann-degraded polyacrylamide prepared by Hoffmann degradation of an acrylamide polymer to a pulp slurry containing at least one of pulp beaten to a Canadian freeness of≥270 ml and pulp beaten after adding xylanase and then by carrying out paper making.
