PURPOSE: A method and device for packaging food with packaging sheet is provided to improve packaging efficiency by automatically and sanitarily packaging food such as a rice ball, and prevent food from dropping when the packaging sheet is tore in two. CONSTITUTION: In a packaging device, a packaging-sheet supply unit(4) supplies packaging sheet to insert one end of the packaging sheet into a food pushing-up passage. A food pushing-up member pushes up food from the lower part of the packaging sheet, covers the top of food with one end of the packaging sheet, and sags the other end of the packaging sheet. A pushing-out block(5) has a receiving portion receiving food, is capable of reciprocating above the food pushing-up member, and moves the received food sliding along a guide plate(61) toward the lower part. The pushing-out block fits a drop portion of the packaging sheet between the guide plate and the food, and covers the bottom of the food with the packaging sheet. A folding/overlapping unit(6) folds and overlaps both edges of the sheet on the side surface of the pushing-out block while the food is pushed out. A joining unit(8) joins the overlapped portion of the edges of the sheet under supporting the food with the pushing-out block.
