<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove the abnormal state of the apparatus in an early stage and to enhance the operation efficiency of the apparatus by annunciating the error corresponding to the degree of the abnormal state of the apparatus, without disturbing the user. <P>SOLUTION: After a quantity of light emitted to a patch image from a density sensor is adjusted, the density of the patch image is detected by an output signal from the density sensor. For instance, when the quantity of light emitted to the patch image is adjusted, sensor outputs are detected respectively while the light is off, and while a small quantity of light and a large quantity of light are emitted, and based upon the detection results, the quantity of light emitted to the patch image is adjusted. When the sensor output is not at an appropriate level, it is determined as an error. According to the state of the error, either one of the two types of error processing (error processing 1 and error processing 2) is selectively performed. In the error processing 2 corresponding to an abnormal state that is not so serious, a message for urging a user to clean the density sensor is displayed regardless of the cause of the error. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
