PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk unit which is advantageous in improving the operability and user-friendliness, and a caddie. SOLUTION: When the caddie 16 comes to an exit position in the state that an opening and closing lid 14 exists in an open position, the caddie 16 is moved by a user and is held in a projection position by a holding mechanism 20. The engagement and disengagement of an optical disk 2 with and from the caddie 16 are made possible in this state. When the caddie 16 is moved from the projection position to a loading position, the caddie 16 is held in the loading position by the holding mechanism 20. When the opening and closing lid 14 is closed in this state, the caddie 16 is located to a recording and reproducing position. The caddie 16 is engaged and held in the loading position and the projection position by the holding mechanism 20, respectively, and is therefore prevented from being dislodged from the opening and closing lid 14. Accordingly, the operability at the time of attaching and removing the optical disk 2 to and from the caddie 16 is improved and the loss of the caddie 16 can be prevented.
