PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To collectively perform the restoration to an intended past generation while saving the using capacity of the storage medium of a backup device in restoration of backup data. SOLUTION: A generation that is a restoration object is inputted (step S1), full data files of the oldest generation of a full backup area are accessed to read file information of each data file (step S3), and map information is created on a PC side (step S4). When the generation of the restoration object is the oldest generation, the procedure is advanced to step S10, and when it is differed, a differential area of the previous past generation is accessed to read the file information of each differential data file (step S7), and the map information of this past generation is formed on the PC side (step S8). The works from step S6 to step S9 are repeated until the past generation of the restoration object is attained, and the data file of the generation of the restoration object is restored in the PC (step S10).
