PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat ring for a butterfly valve to work well in practice, capable of preventing fluid from generating cavitation on the back face of a valve element, in the condition in which the fluid with high pressure flows in the butterfly valve and the valve element is opened to a minor degree. SOLUTION: The seat ring is formed from a resilient material in the shape of a short cylinder and equipped with a valve stem inserting hole, which is furnished at the inside surface with a bulging part in a ring shape formed around the valve stem inserting hole and an angle shape part extending between the valve stem inserting holes, and a slope extending in the circumferential direction is provided between the inside surface and the end faces, wherein on the slope a plurality of grooves are formed at a certain spacing in such a way as extending in the axial direction of the cylinder.
