PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restore a filtration performance of a membrane filtration module lowered by accumulation of a fouling substance by washing with a chemical. SOLUTION: In the method for washing a membrane, an organic substance deposited on the membrane is oxidized and washed by immersing the membrane in a chlorine dioxide solution. Thereafter, the membrane is oscillated by aeration to enhance a washing effect and dissipate chlorine dioxide. the fouling substance such as a metal oxide is washed by further washing the membrane with an acid solution remaining after chlorine dioxide is dissipated.
