A method for recovering cyanine, phthalocyanine and azo dye systems (I) from optically writable storage media (A) involves dissolving (I) in a solvent before the application of the metallic reflection layer of (A) and collecting (I) in a device provided for the purpose. An independent claim is included for apparatus for the process, comprising a spray device (1), a (preferably rotatable) deposition surface (4) for (A), a transport device (7) and a collector (10), the apparatus especially being in the form of an immersion bath in which (I) is dissolved from (A).
