<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform image processing optimal for each of image information by selecting a table to be used for each of image information even when a plurality of kinds of image information are contained in one document. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus comprises a memory 3 for storing an image signal for each pixel inputted via an input terminal 2, a feature data extracting circuit 4 for extracting feature data for each of pixel blocks within a predetermined range dividing a document image into a plurality of parts with respect to the inputted image signal, a memory 5 for storing the feature data which are extracted for each pixel block by the feature data extraction circuit 4, a correction table selection circuit 6 for selecting any one of a plurality of correction tables on the basis of the feature data extracted by the feature data extraction circuit 4, and a density correction circuit 7 for correcting a density value of the image signal according to the selected correction table.
