<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which is a transflective liquid crystal display device and with which both reflective display and transmissive display are feasible and a high luminance and high contrast display is feasible, further which is provided with a construction advantageous to reduction in thickness and weight and which is manufactured at a low cost, and an electronic equipment provided with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is constructed by interposing a liquid crystal layer 16 between an upper substrate 14 and a lower substrate 13 placed opposite to each other, disposing a polarizing plate 36 on the upper substrate 14 side of the liquid crystal layer 16, disposing a reflection polarizing layer 18 on the lower substrate 13 side of the liquid crystal layer 16 and making the liquid crystal layer 16 contain a twisted nematic liquid crystal with a dichroic pigment mixed therein, wherein an alignment direction of liquid crystal molecules L of the liquid crystal layer 16 at a location adjacent to the upper substrate 14 is nearly parallel to a transmission axis of the polarizing plate 36 and an angle between the transmission axis of the polarizing plate 36 and a transmission axis of the reflection polarizing layer 18 is ≥0° and ≤70°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
