<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an integrated hollow power transmitting shaft having static strength and fatigue strength in well balanced relation. <P>SOLUTION: Induction hardening is applied to the integrated hollow shaft 1 at its outer periphery side to form a hardened layer 5. With a non-hardened layer being left, a spline portion 2 has lower hardness at its inner surface than in other sites. Thus, the shaft 1 has improved toughness and compressive residual stress at the spline portion 2 which is liable to originate fatigue crack and it has static strength and fatigue strength in well balanced relation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
