PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contour correction apparatus and a contour correction method capable of obtaining a clear and smooth video image. SOLUTION: A luminance signal YS1 is input into an input terminal 101, and is provided to a first high-frequency signal extracting circuit 110, to a second high-frequency signal extracting circuit 120 and to an adding circuit 203. The circuit 110 extracts a high-frequency component H1 of the luminance signal YS1. The circuit 120 extracts a high-frequency component H2 of the luminance signal YS1. A component having a frequency lower than that of the high-frequency component H1 extracted by the circuit 110 is contained in the high-frequency component H2. A first contour correction signal AM1 is generated on the basis of the high-frequency signal H1, a second contour correction signal H2 is generated on the basis of the high-frequency signal H2, and a third contour correction signal AM3 is generated on the basis of the first and second contour correction signals AM1, AM2.
