In apparatus for the cutting of round corners on a stack 11 of record cards, the cards are clamped by means of retractable presser feet 43 and the corners of the cards are cut by means of knives 53 which are oscillated in a horizontal plane and reciprocated in a vertical plane, the cutting edges of the knives being arcuate. The presser feet 43 are actuated by means of a pneumatic cylinder 29 and the knives 53 are oscillated by the energization of a solenoid 77 which reciprocates links 89 to cause partial rotation of outer sleeves 63 each of which is connected through a bearing sleeve 55 to a respective knife whilst the knives are reciprocated by actuation of a fluid cylinder 73 to cause cylinder rod 71 to lower a movable platform plate 59 slowly downward carrying with it the oscillating knives. A lower limit of travel is provided by engagement of plate 59 with stop collar 99 on a guide post 33 and an upper limit is provided by collar 101 on cylinder rod 71 striking a sub-plate 35. The speed of oscillation of the knives is preferably at least one cycle for each thickness of card advanced vertically.</p> |
