PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating the operating ratio of a sensor network that includes a plurality of sensor nodes and is connected to the Internet through a gateway. SOLUTION: Data sensed by each sensor node are relayed by the other sensor node and is transferred through the gateway and the network. Information used for evaluating the operating ratio of the sensor network includes the number of sensor nodes included in the sensor network or the area of a sensing area, a transfer route of the data sensed by the sensor nodes and a parameter of each sensor node. In evaluating the operating ratio, these pieces of information are inputted, an arithmetic unit is used to calculate the operating ratio on the basis of a prescribed expression. To optimize the operating ratio, the calculated operating ratio is compared with a target value, and when the operating ratio does not exceed the target value, an arithmetic operation is repeated while changing inputted data.
