PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device whose picture quality is improved by preventing noise from being emphasized while carrying out overshoot driving for compensating optical response characteristics of a liquid crystal panel. SOLUTION: A feature quantity detection part 5 detects feature quantities (noise, edge part, counter line emphasis, etc.) of an input image signal. A control part 6 controls a write gradation determination part 2 to suppress an OS driving quantity for the feature quantity detection part or not to perform OS driving (to output the input image signal as it is). According to a write gradation signal determined by the write gradation determination part 2, a liquid crystal controller 3 drives the liquid crystal display panel 4, so while half-tones are correctly displayed, deterioration in picture quality due to excessive emphasis of noise etc., is suppressed as much as possible to realize image display of high picture quality.
