The invention provides an exhaust gas purifier capable of suitably burning away suit and an SOF content adhering to and deposited on the electrodes of a plasma generating device. An exhaust gas purifier having a post-processing device (a catalyst regeneration type particulate filter (10)) disposed somewhere between the ends of the exhaust pipe (9) of an internal combustion engine (diesel engine (1)) to allow exhaust gases (8) to pass therethrough for purification, the exhaust gas purifier comprising a plasma generating device (11) which generates plasma by discharging electricity into the exhaust gases (8) on the side upstream of the post-processing device, a flow-through type oxidation catalyst (12) installed in the pre-stage of the plasma generating device (11), a fuel adding means (control device (17)) which adds fuel to the exhaust gases (8) on the side upstream of the oxidation catalyst (12), a temperature elevating means (an intake air choke valve (22) or control device (17)) which elevates the exhaust gas temperature to a temperature value enabling the fuel added by the fuel adding means to undergo an oxidation reaction in the presence of the oxidation catalyst (12). |
