Vehicle seat (10) has a lower part (12) and back support (14) together with a lumbar support (36) that can be manually operated and or partially operated using a drive. Measurement units (40,42) are used to generate measurement values (50, 52) corresponding to the position of a person sitting on the seat. The lumbar support can then be automatically adjusted with an adjustment system (100) to the correct position. An independent claim is made for a method for monitoring the setting and position of a vehicle seat lumbar support in which the weight of a person sitting in the seat is measured.
