PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display, and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to prevent spots in a seal, improve an adhesive characteristic between substrates and a seal pattern, and improve cell gap uniformity by compensating a step height between spacers and the seal pattern. CONSTITUTION: First and second substrates(210,230) are arranged facing each other, having a display area(V) realizing a picture, a non-display area placed outside the display area, and a seal pattern area(VI). Black matrices(232) are formed on the second substrate. Color filters are formed on the black matrices at the display area and the seal pattern area. A plurality of patterned spacers(238) are formed on the color filters at the display area. A patterned seal(242) is formed in the same process and with the same material as the patterned spacers. A seal pattern(244) is formed at the seal pattern area outside the patterned seal. A liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first and second substrates in the patterned seal area.
