PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosetting aqueous coating composition which does not contain free bisphenol A, exhibits excellent storage stability and forms a coating film excellent in hardenability, processability and adhesion to a raw material. SOLUTION: The thermosetting aqueous coating composition comprises 100 pts. wt. of the solid content of an aqueous polyester resin dispersion (A) obtained by neutralizing with a basic compound at least a part of carboxy groups of a carboxy group- and unsaturated group-bearing polyester resin (a) which has an acid value of 5-80 mgKOH/g and contains 0.03-0.9 mmol/g of a polymerizable unsaturated group and dispersing the polyester resin in water, and 1-50 pts. wt. of a resol-type phenolic resin (B).
