The contact element for an electric lead or conductor (9,10) has a base body (1) with an insert opening (8) for the lead. The contact element also has a brace type spring element (2) with first and second arms (3,4). The first and second arms are connected to each other via an arch (12) of the brace. A clamp position (20) is provided between the free end of the first arm and a surface (7) connected to the base body. The first arm is rotatably mounted on the base body whereby the first axis of rotation is between the arch and the free end of the first arm. Independent claims also cover a socket clamp including such a contact element and an insulator.
