Filling level indicator for horizontal gas bottles comprises a measurement signaler (30) in the supply line (20) of the gas bottle. The measurement signaler comprises temperature sensors for measuring the temperature in the neck of the bottle and outside the bottle. When the difference exceeds a threshold an alarm or signal is output indicating that the bottle requires changing. The temperature decrease inside the bottle is due to liquid gas evaporation at low levels due to reduced pressure resulting in the absorption of the latent heat of evaporation.
