METHOD FOR SULFONATING POLYARYLENE SULFIDE, POLYMER ELECTROLYTE MEMBRANE AND FUEL CELL USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which solubilization (i.e. sulfonation) reaction of a polyarylene sulfide can be simply and efficiently performed in a homogeneous system in a solvent.

SOLUTION: A method for sulfonating the polyarylene sulfide comprises reacting the polyarylene sulfide which has a main chain consisting of repeating units represented by formula 1 and a solution viscosity [η] of 0.1-0.5 with a sulfonating agent in a polar aprotic organic solvent to obtain a sulfonated polyarylene sulfide having a sulfonic acid group of 0.1-100 mol% based on the total amount of the repeating units.
