PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in a semi-transmissive liquid crystal display that it is necessary to decrease the area of the transmissive part in order to increase the area of the reflective part, and that the opening rate increases when the display is used as a reflective liquid crystal display (called as a reflective mode) however the opening rate decreases when the display is used as a transmissive liquid crystal display (called as a transmission mode), that is, both modes are in a trade-off relation.
SOLUTION: The semi-transmissive liquid crystal display 4 is provided with a means to converge the light from a light source represented by a backlight 1, specifically, a microlens array 3. It is necessary to allow light with intense directivity to enter the microlens array 3 and therefore a diffusing plate conventionally used is not used.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
