GLASS AND GLASS-CERAMIC ARTICLES AND PROCESS TO PREPARE SAME

Glass and glass-ceramic articles are obtained using a process based on the soda-lime-silica (NCS) system, the process comprising preparing frits by melting suitable NCS compositions between 1300°C and 1600°C, milling to suitable particle size distribution, limited to particle sizes < 15mm, compacting and sintering between 720°C and 1100°C, so as to favor viscous flow before the limiting occurrence of surface crystallization, to obtain maximum densification or, alternatively, interrupting the sintering process to obtain porous articles; the process parameters being optimized with the aid of a mathematical model and algorithm that allow one to attain suitable porosity and crystallinity for the end product. The glass and glass-ceramic articles that can be obtained are also described.
