摘要 <p><PICT:1089448/C6-C7/1> Steel is continuously made in an elongated rotary furnace 1 having a melting zone heated from the charge and e.g. using a burner 16 and a refining zone independently heated from the discharge end 46 e.g. using a burner 25 by simultaneously and continuously melting a charge material 21 comprising metallic iron pieces such as reduced sponge iron or prepared scrap of uniform size and composition, fluxes such as burnt lime and dolomite and alloying materials such as C, Fe-Mn, Fe-Si and Ni, e.g. fed from a hopper 13 through a feed pipe 14, in the melting zone to form liquid metal 23 and slag 22, advancing the liquid metal and slag from the melting zone into the refining zone and refining the metal with the slag under controlled agitating, advancing and heating to form liquid steel and slag of desired composition and temperature. The rate of slag flow may be controlled by adjusting the position of a slag barrier 33 connected to the discharge end burner 25. An annular gas curtain from a gas fed header pipe 30 may seal the discharge end 46 to limit the flow of secondary air into the furnace whilst effecting the flow of hot gases within countercurrent to the advance of the charge material. Further alloying materials may be added into the liquid steel at the discharge end e.g. through an injection pipe 35.</p>
