PURPOSE: A floor protecting apparatus for an upright vacuum cleaner is provided to prevent a floor from being damaged by brush hairs formed on a rotary brush by preventing the brush hairs from protruding through a suction port. CONSTITUTION: A floor protecting apparatus for an upright vacuum cleaner is composed of a contact plate(111) adhering closely to the bottom of a suction port(101), a connecting hinge(112), and a contact plate fixing unit(113) installed at the front and rear of the connecting hinge. The contact plate prevents brush hairs(104) formed on a rotary brush(105) from protruding through the suction port during floor cleaning. The connecting hinge is connected to one end of the contact plate and the bottom of a suction head, and connects the contact plate to the suction port rotatably. The fixing unit fixes the contact plate to the bottom of the suction port, and includes front and rear metal plates(131) fixed to the front and rear of the suction head respectively, and front and rear magnets(132) fixed to the front and rear of the contact plate and corresponding to the front and rear metal plates.
