APPARATUS AND METHOD OF COOLING OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method of cooling an optical fiber by which the cooling efficiency of the optical fiber is improved.

SOLUTION: The apparatus for cooling the optical fiber is provided with a cooling passage 111a for passing a cooling gas G. The cooling passage 111a has a gas introducing port 115 for introducing the cooling gas G, a fiber lead-in part 112 for leading in the optical fiber 104 into the cooling passage 111a, and a fiber lead-out part 113 for leading out the optical fiber 104 from the cooling passage 111a. In the introduction of the cooling gas G, the pressure loss in a fiber lead-in region ranging from the gas introducing port 115 to the fiber lead-in part 112 is smaller than the pressure loss in a fiber lead-out part region ranging from the gas introducing port 115 to the fiber lead-out part 113 in the cooling passage 111a.
