<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical image management system which allows a user to grasp the overall progress in real time and to share image database even when a DICOM adaptive and a DICOM nonadaptive image generating apparatuses coexist. <P>SOLUTION: The medical image management system comprises both a DICOM nonadaptive image generating apparatus 90 and a DICOM adaptive image generating apparatus 91. The DICOM nonadaptive image generating apparatus 90 is connected to a LAN200 via a gateway apparatus 100 and outputs image information formatted into DICOM formula to the LAN 200. The gateway apparatus acquires examination reserving information of patients from a management system 300, selects a patient to be examined on the basis of the examination reserving information, and correlates an examination ID or a patient ID of the patient in the management system 300 to image information acquired by the image generating apparatus 90.
