<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate which contributes to improvement in color field angle characteristic of an LCD and a manufacturing method by which the polarizing plate can be manufactured in high yield. <P>SOLUTION: A polarizing plate 50 includes at least a polarizing film 52; a protective film 54; and a light scattering type color compensating film 56, and the angle between the axis of transmission of the polarizing film 52 and the phase delay axis or phase advance axis of the protective film 54 is 5 to 85°, and in the light scattering type color compensating film 56, an azimuth angle θ on an arbitrary scattering surface of a film surface and scattered light intensity F(λ,θ) at an incident light wavelength λ satisfy an expression (1) or (2). Here, λ=435 or 610 nm and θ is an arbitrary angle selected the range of 30 to 70°. (1) F(λ,θ)/F(545,θ)≥1.1, and (2) F(λ,θ)/F(545,θ)≤0.9. The manufacturing method includes a process of obliquely drawing a long-sized polymer film and a process of adding the light scattering type color compensating film to the obliquely drawn polymer film. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
