PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the spacing loss between a head structure and a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a magnetic head assembly having a predetermined wrap angle includes a process for removing a part of a support surface of a magnetic head. Accordingly, a slot that traverses a traveling direction of the medium, and separates at least partially between a main support surface having an active element region and a thin support surface is formed. The method further includes a process of removing a part of the thin support surface. Accordingly, the height of at least the part of the thin supporting surface is decreased with respect to the main support surface.
