PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microchip capable of easily detecting the presence of a liquid in a microchannel, and a liquid detection method using it. SOLUTION: In the microchip composed of at least one transparent substrate having a microchannel constituting a flow channel having a predetermined shape arranged on one surface thereof and a transparent counter substrate for sealing the microchannel, a light scattering surface having fine unevenness for scattering light formed thereto is provided to at least a part of the inner wall surface of the microchannel and the presence of a liquid is detected on the basis of the transmitted light of the light scattering surface or the intensity of reflected light.
