<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating a raw material, by which in decorative paper to be used for surface decoration of wall paper, etc., a vinyl chloride-based resin layer and backing paper laminated to the decorative surface of the decorative paper are separated/taken out, respectively, and each made into reusable recycled raw materials. <P>SOLUTION: The raw material c is ground and the ground raw material is disintegrated. The disintegrated raw material is purified and separated into the backing paper (a) and the vinyl chloride-based resin layer b. The separated backing paper (a) is taken out and made into the recycled raw material e for papermaking and the vinyl chloride-based resin layer b separated in the purification process is adjusted to a proper water content by drying.
